Rating Viewer
Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026
Overview
Rating Viewer processes a limited amount of data to display color-coded rating indicators on Letterboxd film posters and Crunchyroll anime cards. The extension has no developer-operated server, analytics, advertising, or tracking service.
Data the extension processes
When you browse a supported website, the extension:
- Checks the active tab's URL when the popup opens to select the matching settings page. This URL is not stored.
- Reads film links and identifiers displayed on Letterboxd pages.
- Requests the corresponding public Letterboxd film pages to obtain their average ratings.
- Reads public viewer ratings already displayed in Crunchyroll anime cards. These ratings are not cached.
-
Stores normalized film paths, ratings, cache timestamps, and temporary
request-error information in
chrome.storage.local. -
Stores extension preferences, such as whether borders are enabled,
rating groups, group names, colors, border width, and animation
settings for each supported site in
chrome.storage.sync.
How the data is used
Film and anime links and ratings are used solely to display public ratings on supported websites. The local cache reduces repeated requests to Letterboxd. Preferences are used solely to preserve the user's chosen display configuration.
Storage and retention
The local rating cache contains no more than 1,000 film entries. Rated films normally expire after seven days, unrated films after one day, and failed requests after ten minutes. Expired entries are removed during subsequent cache maintenance. Local extension storage is cleared when the extension is removed.
If Chrome Sync is enabled, Chrome may synchronize extension preferences between browsers where the user is signed in. If Chrome Sync is disabled, those preferences remain stored locally. Chrome Sync is operated by Google and is subject to the user's Chrome and Google Account settings. Film paths and cached ratings are not stored in Chrome Sync.
Data transmission and sharing
The developer does not receive, sell, rent, or share user data. Additional website requests made by the extension are sent only to HTTPS Letterboxd addresses. These requests may contain ordinary information handled by the browser and Letterboxd, such as the user's IP address, user agent, and existing Letterboxd session cookies. Crunchyroll ratings are read from the page that is already open and are not separately requested or retained. The extension does not read or store passwords or authentication cookies.
Chrome may transmit extension preferences through Chrome Sync when that feature is enabled. Those synchronized preferences are handled by Google, not received by the extension developer.
Your choices
You can change or replace synchronized preferences from the extension popup. You can control Chrome Sync through Chrome's settings. Removing the extension clears its local rating cache.
Limited use
Information processed by the extension is used only to provide its user-facing rating-display functionality. The extension's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated if the extension's data-handling practices change. Material changes will be disclosed to users as required by the Chrome Web Store policies.
